Raise Your Hand if You’re a Rapist, Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby Raising His HandMy generation grew up with Bill Cosby as a hero for American families.  Watching his shows and hearing his comedy was truly a joy.  That Bill Cosby is now being accused as a rapist makes me sick to my stomach.  He was someone that made me laugh and happy.  Now, I truly believe Bill Cosby is guilty of raping and sexually abusing potentially hundreds of women.  If that’s not bad enough, his story of lies has been going on for more than 50 years.  He was molesting and raping women while being revered by the American public.  Bill Cosby a rapist.  No way that could have been true and now I can’t imagine it’s not true.

If this was the story of one woman and her accusations, I might believe the possibility that she was lying to gain fame at his expense.  When the number of women coming forward becomes too many to ignore, it’s impossible to see that he could be innocent.  The chilling stories from these women, all telling roughly the same Bill Cosby nightmare experience, remove any doubt.  These women have nothing to gain – well, maybe the embarrassment and pain that comes with having to acknowledge that America’s hero raped and sexually abused them, but I don’t think that’s much of a reward.  Bill Cosby drugged, raped, and abused these women before shaming them into silence and screwing the American people with his lies.

As of December 2015, more than 50 women have come forward to publicly accuse Bill Cosby, now 78, of sexually assaulting them.  Most also said they were drugged by Bill Cosby.  Chronologically, victims of Bill Cosby start with Kristina Ruehli who reports that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted her in 1965 when she was a 22-year-old secretary at a talent agency.  In 2004, Andrea Constand, the director of operations for the Temple University women’s basketball team, says that in November of 2002, she met with Cosby – a Temple University alum – when he approached her and offered to be her mentor in an attempt to gain her trust. In January 2004, she says she met with Cosby at his home in Pennsylvania and alleges that he gave her pills that he said would ease her anxiety. Constand claims that after drugging her, Cosby groped and sexually assaulted her.  She filed civil charges against Cosby in March 2005.

Andrea Constand settled her civil case with Bill Cosby for an unspecified amount, but in December 2015 Bill Cosby was arraigned on one charge of aggravated indecent assault in connection to Constand’s accusation.  The statute of limitations of 12 years for rape was due to expire in January 2016.

Chloe Goins, 24, claims that Cosby drugged her and sexually assaulted her in 2008 during a party at the Playboy Mansion when she was 18 years old.  No charges in this case have been filed, and the statute of limitations in the State of California is ticking towards expiration at year 10.

Nobody from my generation really wants to say it, but I will.  Bill Cosby, I hate you.  You took the freedoms of this country I hold so dear and raped and sexually assaulted women, and then repeatedly lied to the public and people that trusted you.  You lied.  You stole.  You destroyed lives.  You are nothing like the man that you claimed to be.  You, Bill Cosby, are a fraud.

Perhaps the greatest pain in this story is knowing that there are women that have lived with the pain of your actions for more than 50 years, and you’re not going to live long enough to suffer what you deserve.  Even if you receive life in prison for your crimes, that’s not enough with the years you have left.
