It’s been said that “absolute power corrupts absolutely”, and I believe that billionaire Michael Bloomberg is a using his vast fortunes to corruptly attain the power that he wants. To what end, I can hardly imagine, but with his recent push to break change the rules to allow him to run for a third term in office it would appear that there are enough people that have benefited from his term in office that he might actually get the opportunity. Why the citizens of New York and our government for that matter aren’t calling bullshit I don’t understand.
Bloomberg has actually done quite a bit for the citizens of New York, annd until it suited him he was in support of term limits. Now that his time is up, he’s looking for a one-time exception which would allow him to run again. His reasoning – New York is in a financial crisis worse than what he inherited in 2001 when he was elected into office. Now isn’t that a no brainer – the world is in a worse financial crisis, and it’s because of people like Bloomberg.
So, with the recent about face on term limits, how can the people of New York believe that it will be “just this once,” or anything else for this matter? Bloomberg openly supported term limits, but what he didn’t tell us was that he didn’t want them to apply to him. If that’s what money buys – that’s what I call corruption. Bush has a lot of money in his family and so does McCain. Would Americans support another term for Bush while we ferret our way through the worldwide financial crisis that is brewing? Thankfully, I believe the answer to that question is no.
